Mrs. Kalpana Debbarma, the wife of Ananta Debbarma and a resident of Borakha ADC village under the jurisdiction of Mandwi R.D Block, is a dedicated mother of two school-going children. Initially, she wasn’t particularly focused on her children’s education. However, a positive  transformation occurred when the EdIndia Foundation’s Community Program, Thumsa, stepped in.

The village volunteer and team members from EdIndia Foundation began engaging with Mrs. Kalpana on a regular basis after the school came under EdIndia’s Pragyan School. EdIndia team started initiating events at the village level to enhance awareness and emphasize the importance of education. Through these efforts, they sensitized community members and provided valuable support for the academic growth of children. Tools like Google Read Along, educational games were employed to assist with reading and writing exercises, while Visual Report Cards developed by the foundation were used to enlighten parents about their children’s academic and non- academic performance. This comprehensive approach significantly impacted Mrs. Kalpana Debbarma and her husband, prompting them to take their children’s studies more seriously. Mrs. Kalpana, who also works in the fields and engages in daily labor to supplement the family’s income, now wholeheartedly devotes herself to ensuring a brighter future for her children. With dreams of seeing them become successful in their life, she receives continuous support from the EdIndia team, transforming her into an advocate for education within her community.

Despite facing economic challenges, such as selling domesticated animals to meet educational expenses to also sending them to private tuitions, Mrs. Kalpana remains determined to provide her children with the best possible education. Her unwavering commitment and the assistance from EdIndia have become instrumental in fostering a positive change in her family’s educational journey.
