Miles of Commitment: : How Maya
Jogpal Is Building Her Dream
Some journeys aren’t measured by the distance between two places, but by the determination it takes to walk them every day.
For Maya Jogpal, that journey is 160 kilometres long, every single day. From her home in Nagaur district to her college in Nokha, Bikanaer district, in Rajasthan, Maya travels this distance with one purpose; to become the kind of teacher who can truly make a difference.
A student of Shri Adarsh Jain Kanya TT College, Maya is currently pursuing her B.Ed., a part of her commitment to India’s evolving teacher education program. Her dedication to her studies, despite the challenges of travel and time, is a reminder of the quiet perseverance that fuels real change in education.
Teaching is in Maya’s blood. Her father is a teacher, and so is her husband. But Maya’s dream is uniquely her own. Inspired by the impact she saw educators have in her life, she decided to step into the classroom, not just as a continuation of family tradition, but as someone determined to shape young minds with purpose, compassion, and curiosity.
Balancing her B.Ed. coursework with preparation for the REET exam, Maya doesn’t let time go to waste. On long bus rides and between classes, she regularly uses the Teachable App, a learning platform developed under Sterlite EdIndia Foundation’s teacher training initiatives. With interactive courses, practice tests, and bite-sized learning modules, the app has become an everyday companion in her preparation journey.
And it doesn’t stop there.

Maya recently participated in the Question-Making Competition organized by Sterlite EdIndia Foundation, an initiative designed to deepen teacher trainees’ understanding of Bloom’s Taxonomy and sharpen their skills in creating learner-focused assessments. Out of hundreds of participants
across the state, Maya secured 2nd position at the state level, a remarkable achievement that she calls a turning point.
“It helped me realise the depth that goes into creating just one good question,” she shared. “As future teachers, we aren’t just answering questions, we’re learning how to ask better ones.”
At Sterlite EdIndia Foundation, we believe stories like Maya’s are the real indicators of impact. Our focus on teacher education, digital support tools, and strengthening institutions is driven by one goal, to empower future educators who are not just qualified, but deeply committed to the profession.
Maya’s story is not one of convenience. It’s about conviction. It’s about choosing growth, day after day, even when it’s hard. Her gratitude to the EdIndia team is heartfelt, but the honour is truly ours, to witness such determination and to be part of a journey that will one day echo in a classroom full of curious learners.
Because when a teacher like Maya walks into a school, after hundreds of kilometres and countless hours of study, she doesn’t just bring a degree.
She brings strength, belief and change.
