A Path of Her Own: The
Story of Anamika Nama

From the family’s craft table to the classroom’s chalkboard, one young woman’s quiet determination is shaping a different future

In the small village of Tripura, where generations have kept alive the delicate rhythm of rural craftsmanship, Anamika Nama is learning to shape something else, futures.

She comes from a family whose hands are well-versed in tradition artisans creating beauty from the everyday. But Anamika’s dream lies not in continuing the craft business that has sustained her family for years, but in stepping into a classroom as a teacher. And she’s not just dreaming it, she’s building it with quiet focus, discipline, and an unwavering sense of purpose.

Inspired by the educators who once stood in front of her classroom, Anamika decided early on that she wanted to give back in the same way, by becoming a guide and mentor for students like herself. It wasn’t the easiest choice. In many families, changing tracks from the “tried and tested” isn’t always met with open arms. But in Anamika’s case, her conviction made room for acceptance, and her family is now among her biggest supporters.

Every day, Anamika travels nearly an hour to attend her D.El.Ed. classes, part of her journey through the teacher education program supported by Sterlite EdIndia Foundation. This is no small feat, especially when balanced with preparing for the highly competitive TET exam and managing responsibilities at home. But she shows up. Every single day. Because for Anamika, this isn’t just about getting a job it’s about becoming the kind of teacher who helps students find their own calling, just like she found her.

Her commitment recently shone through during the Question-Making Competition organized as part of EdIndia’s teacher training initiatives. Competing with peers across the state and beyond, Anamika secured 1st position at the state level and 2nd at the inter-state level, an achievement she humbly sees as just another step forward.

“It wasn’t just a competition,” she shared with a quiet smile. “It was a way to test how well I can create learning that makes sense to children and to myself as a future teacher.”

For us at Sterlite EdIndia Foundation, Anamika’s story is a living example of why we do what we do. Through our educational foundation work across India, we aim to support thousands of pre-service teachers like Anamika, young people full of potential, waiting only for the right tools, opportunities, and support to unlock it.

Because change in education doesn’t begin in policies or headlines, it begins in people. In a young woman choosing a new path. In a long bus ride to class. In a hand raised during a teacher training session. In a question carefully written for a child who hasn’t yet learned to ask one.

Anamika Nama isn’t just preparing for a profession. She’s preparing to shape lives. And we’re honoured to walk this journey with her.
