In an exclusive interview with TechConnect, Sourav opens up about his experience of working for Room to Read which transforms primary schools into child-friendly learning environments. The organization primarily advocates for gender equality and the right to quality education for all. He talks about the initial challenges faced by Room to Read in terms of creating impact and scaling-up initiatives, which led them to develop a scaffolded intervention model based on the “I Do, We Do, You Do” approach, that targets sustainability through government collaboration and ownership.

The organization is also actively working towards mitigating the learning crisis that was created due to schools being forced to close down during the pandemic. The new norm in the post-COVID world led them to develop innovative virtual initiatives like Literacy Cloud, Nalanda Bot and courses on foundational literacy and life skills available through the MoE’s DIKSHA platform. Speaking about where he imagines Room to Read India to be in the next 5 years, Sourav says,

“I think the biggest growth will come from the area of system reforms and system strengthening. Room to Read will play an increasingly active role in supporting the government educational reforms at the state level and supporting governments to plan for foundational literacy,
implementing, and designing programs”
